Just received the following from Infone…
Dear Infone Customer:
It is with deep regret that we must announce that Infone LLC will be discontinuing its enhanced directory assistance and call completion services effective December 31, 2005. If you have questions you may contact us by e-mail at customer.service@infone.com. Please be advised that this discontinuation does not change the service you have with your designated long distance carrier. It has been our pleasure serving you and we thank you for your patronage.
Infone LLC
Looks like the 411/local search companies popping-up for cell phone users, are about to get an influx of new customers.

I liked infone it had live operators there was no automated stuff. most directory assistance is half automated and if they connect you to a wrong number or your call gets dropped your up the creek. I for one will go to a computer and look for what I want I dont use 411 anymore

I had signed up for INFONE and had used it a few times…when suddenly, a recording said they had been disconnected!!
I loved these guys. Great service and at a great price (probably why they didn’t make it…too many ‘free’ introductory calls).
I have heard that a new free service has sprung up to help fill the gap.
1-800-FREE 411
(1-800-373-3411), has a service that is ‘advertiser’ based. That is, you are subjected to short advertisements of competitors’ ads while waiting for your particular number.
haven’t tried it yet, but HAVE programmed it into my cell.
