According to the AP, Google has announced it will hire 1,000 employees in the Ann Arbor area, over the next five years.

…the Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News said…said Google would announce plans to build an office for its AdWords unit, which handles “pay-per-click” advertising to users of Google’s Internet search engine.

Do you think this is big news on Michigan? It’s going to be bigger than “big”, it’s going to be…

“This is a huge, huge, huge, huge thing,” Gov. Jennifer Granholm told Free Press columnist Tom Walsh.

I think this is great new for the state of Michigan as well as for Granholm. With 1000 jobs promising to come and Granholm’s job plan she has laid out for her campaign, maybe things are starting to turn around for Michigan.

It really don’t mean anything. 1,000 jobs over 5 years is not very much compared to the complete state of Michigan. She was lucky to have Google open one small office in Michigan. I would say yeah if she brought 100,000 jobs to Michigan, and not just an area of Michigan that is not hurting as much as the rest of the state.
