Google’s decided, “if we’re going to be sued for our book-scanning project, then so should our friends.”
The WSJ reports Google will subpoena Yahoo and Microsoft to seek information about their book-scanning and Internet publishing projects.
It’s kind of like the a teenager getting scolded for smoking, who then exclaims, “but Yahoo and Microsoft were smoking too!” 
UPDATE: Google Announces Acquisition of YouTube.
The search engine space is no stranger to rumors and they do often turn out to be reality. On that basis, we’re reporting TechCrunch’s rumor that Google may be in talks to acquire YouTube for $1.6 billion.

I got an email tonight about a possible Google acquisition of YouTube that may be in the final stages before closing. Rumored price is $1.6 billion. A quick phone call to a VC confirmed that the rumor is circulating (he also confirmed the price), but that is far from confirmation that this deal is happening. I’m digging for more but the source on this one is very good.

Group owners can now create a welcome message, upload a group logo and customize your fonts and colors. CNET reports Google has launched a new web site, Google Code Search, which will allow programmers to search billions of lines of code.
The service, conceived by the Google Labs early technology group, will crawl publicly available code, most of which is made available through open-source projects. The search and indexing covers code on Web pages and code that resides in compressed files, said Tom Stocky, a product manager at Google.
Google hopes the service will be used only by students and serious programmers, looking for open source code. However, one of the quotes from Stocky, set off a small alarm bell in my head.
“Most of the code is open source so you can reuse it.”
Podzinger is launching a new ad service that will show video ads based on search queries entered and the content being viewed, reports ClickZ.
Now, when content owners submit content to be indexed in PodZinger’s search engine, they can choose to join the advertising program and share in the revenue generated from ads. Ads will only be shown on content from its co-brand partners or from content owners that have opted in to the advertising program.
The ads will be between 10 and 15 seconds in length and will be shown prior to the start of the chosen video clip.
Mobile search provider, JumpTap, just received $22 million in Series C funding, led by Valhalla Partners.
“JumpTap is a very exciting company with a brilliant product offering for wireless carriers and advertisers. They have an exceptionally qualified management team who has established carrier relationships and a broad pipeline of additional mobile carrier deals in North America and Europe,” said Arthur J. Marks, general partner at Valhalla Partners and former board member of Advertising.com.
