Yahoo has just announced the beta launch of sponsored search results on the company’s Mobile Web service in the USA and UK.

With the beta launch, Yahoo is only offering the service to a limited number of advertisers. According to Yahoo…

Consumers will be able to click on the sponsored search results to go to the advertisers’ mobile web site or a landing page to get more information about the advertisers’ offerings, including the ability to call the advertiser. As the beta phase progresses, Yahoo! will work to expand the number of participating advertisers.

“Yahoo! has always been a leader in pay-per-click search advertising on the PC and we are thrilled to extend that success to mobile search advertising, said Steve Boom, senior vice president, mobile and broadband, Yahoo!, in a statement. “Our test deployments have been very successful, with strong advertiser demand and consumer engagement, which makes us very excited to bring our sponsored search listings to an even wider audience.

Mobile search is certainly an attractive space with cell phones becoming more wide spread and developments of 3G and 4G networks. While “local search” is seeing a huge growth rate, mobile offerings are likely to be the surest way to get in front of a consumer when they need you most – on a street corner, or in their car, looking for your type of business!
