[...] Another name for this type of content is link bait and thanks to Andy Beal, we now have a guideline telling us how to make content attractive enough to garner links. The way this list came about was through some consulting Andy did for a real estate website. The siteowners took the information and formulated it into a helpful link bait guide, which I will highlight below. Before I do that, I would like to point out a quote from Bruce Clay that provides the perfect definition for link bait, courtesy of the aforementioned guide: Link Bait is more or less anything you create anywhere on the Web that inspires other people to link to it. They can link to it via a Web page, a blog, social bookmark site, tagging site, e-zine, newsletter, IM, email or any other method that tells others about the bait. [...]

Cool, glad it might help. Working with FamousAgents.com, I've come to appreciate just how seriously some agents take their SEO.

Thanks for this, Andy. My mother is a realtor and she doesn't understand the importance of SEO nor does she understand the importance of her website's presence on the Internet (her domain name is absolutely stomach-churning from an SEO standpoint). Although I have been trying to help her optimize her site, she is more concerned about letting it stay in the hands of the company that designed it, although they do nothing for SEO and her site is literally invisible in the SERPs. I have passed this information on to let her know that if such an article exists, there is a lot of competition and she needs to take action because having a web presence alone will not get her new business.
