[...] There are some shameless, though not particularly underhanded, self promotion tactics being used to build communities around blogs on MyBlogLog. Using a picture of a hot girl as your avatar is one (increasingly common) way to get people checking out you profile and site(s). Marketing Pilgrim are currently using nothing more than bribery to get new members. [...]

[...] February 22, 2007 // February 16th, 2007 at 12pm marked the end of my MyBlogLog Contest and all I can say is “WOW, What a wild ride it has been!!!” Since stealing the idea, I have been excited (dare I say, Die Hard charged!) with the overwhelming response that my contest has received. Honestly, I never expected so much positive growth over such a short period of time. To give you an idea of what I am talking about; when I started this contest I only had 22 members to my community and now, after whoring myself out to the general public, I have a total of 28 community members. Fucking A’ Right Whorebaiting works!!! All I have got to say to dissenters of search marketing is “Look Who is Laughing Now, dickweed!” I could go on and on about how much fun the past few weeks have been; the people I have met (you would have no idea who I ended up having a heart-to-heart with at 3am - their last name ends in Steve Urkel), the friends I have made, the parties, the dress barn, the gap… and, OMG I can’t forget, the chap stick contest where we all sang Meatloaf and pretended we were in comas (will you guys ever forget? – my safe word was feeding-tube). It’s been the best parts of Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride - but we are here for the winners today. So let’s get to the prizes. First off, I would like to thank Mr. Ethan Hayes (pictured below) for helping me select the winners. The process for selecting the winners was quite complex but I will try and break it down quickly. First I printed out my community members pictures onto a single piece of paper (yes, it’s harder than you think). Then I cut each picture up into its own “square” (square is in quotes because I can’t cut straight). I then placed the community squares (which henceforth I will call communion or body of christ) in a cup. Lastly, I had Ethan Hayes select a random body of christ from the cup and place it my mouth… and by mouth, I mean, he held it up so I could take a picture. Winners Runner up: SEO Fox What Did He Win: The Runner Up will be granted permission to publicly state that we are “going steady” for one full month (permission ends on March 16th, 2007). I will be watching - you’ve only got a month, so make good on it! First Place: Stuntdubl What Did He Win: The Winner of my drawing will receive 1 Nerf Football signed (autographed) by me personally as well as 2 framed 8 x 10 pictures of yours truly. Here’s the best part – both photos will have ME holding YOUR Nerf football so you know they’re authentic! If you want to claim your prize that email me your delivery address at mybloglogwhorebait@gmail.com (yes, it is a real address). So there you have it Gents. Enjoy and Good Looking Out. BlinkList : del.icio.us : Flog this! : Furl : ma.gnolia : Netvouz : reddit : Spurl : Yahoo MyWeb [...]

[...] Since I have no established followers/readers/fan-base, the only way I can see building a community quickly is by creating some MyBlogLog whorebait. Some others have tried the “winning a prize” approach (or just “shameless solicitation”) and I like that approach but I want to take mine a step further and add some vanity. It’s quick, easy and everyone loves prizes. [...]

[...] Andy Beal, MarketingPilgrim.com (Page, SERPS) No description meta tag. Now the snippet from this one (screenshot above) is one of the most interesting of the examples without a meta tag description, as the entire snippet text is actually pulled from a comment to the blog post (see comment 21). Even if you change the keyword term from “lucky myblog to “free microsoft zune” or “zune mybloglog”, the snippet remains the same. But if I search for “mybloglog lucky winner” it shows a snippet of Andy’s content now. The variability is often fixed with the use of a unique description in the description meta tag. [...]
