Can someone please explain to me why voting the popularity of something is proprietary to digg?

I popped into Digg today - which I have to shamefully admit I do on occasion (it is like watching a car wreck). And again... like every other self serving Digg Story - this was their top news item.

Voting has been around before Digg. And voting will be around on more sites in the future. There is nothing to see here. Move along.

Consider Yahoo!'s supreme ability to kill all good Web 2.0 startups they buy, the Diggers should be safe ;-)

I think you are right. Unless Digg has copyrighted its idea, anyone can copy it. Whether or not Yahoo can create something just as good or popular remains to be seen however.
