Google’s Two-Class Blogging Policy

Lots of sites reporting news that Google has taken down a Blogger blog, after it posted a death threat against a New Zealand politician.

Google spokeswoman Victoria Grand today said the weblog was taken down this morning after a complaint from the Ministry of Social Development. She said it was not just yesterday’s death threat that prompted the site shutdown, but that Google believed it was repeat violation of site rules.

That’s all fine and dandy, but Google doesn’t move as quickly – or at all - for regular requests. I’ve worked with a few people that were victims of Blogger blogs posting libelous or threatening information, yet when I approached Google, they did nothing about it.

If you’re going to have a policy in place, make it available to all who complain. Don’t just simply keep caving to the requests of government bodies, it makes you look like their (rhymes with) witch!

“I’ve worked with a few people that were victims of Blogger blogs posting libelous…..yet when I approached Google, they did nothing about it.” Did you find any solutions? My company finds itself in a situation where we are being harassed by a blogger. I’ve been doing some research and have yet to find a solid way to combat this situation. If you send a cease and desist letter most often it seems to backfire in a sense adding fuel to the fire.

Google has been like that for quite sometime now. It isn’t just their blogs. I have personally had a lot of problems with them, but since I am not a government official, I guess, I simply gave up on them. They are getting too big that is why, I think.
