Pheedo Bringing Your RSS Feed to Ads

Pheedo’s new FeedPowered advertising platform offers to take any RSS feed and turn it into a dynamically updated ad unit (see their site for live examples). Where can you run the ads?

You can run your FeedPowered ad on targeted sites across Pheedo’s network of publishers. Alternatively, you can distribute FeedPowered advertising into just about any ad network or via your preferred ad server.

It’s an interesting idea and one that might be appeal to any blog that has made the leap from personal journal to a monetized site. I like the idea of exposing my RSS feed to other sites, but not sure I’d be willing to pay a whole lot for someone to actually click on my feed. After all, where’s the real conversion? Unless they “stick” or subscribe to my full feed, I’m paying a lot for “drive-by” visitors.

UPDATE: Thanks to Pheedo’s Bill Flitter for pointing out that the new platform can help more than just bloggers. According to Bill, “Feedpowered Ads are to help marketers automate their advertising. Keep in mind, the feed can be a retailer’s RSS feed too – product information. Another example might be a Travel company. Think about how often airfare or hotel prices change. A company like Expedia could instantly get the latest prices out to their target customer as soon as they change. Instead of creating thousands of keywords, we just repurpose the content from their site.”

    Andy,

Thanks for writing about our story. A few items to point out.

The Feedpowered Ads are to help marketers automate their advertising. Keep in mind, the feed can be a retailer’s RSS feed too – product information. Another example might be a Travel company. Think about how often airfare or hotel prices change. A company like Expedia could instantly get the latest prices out to their target customer as soon as they change. Instead of creating thousands of keywords, we just repurpose the content from their site.

Furthermore, the content could be Video. For example, the big TV networks are moving more and more video online. We can pull in a video feed and display it the same way.

You as a blogger might not want to pay for “drive-by” visitors but the use of this goes way beyond just bloggers. There is a lot of content being created everyday by marketers. We are just making it easy for them to distribute.

Lastly, you hit the nail on the head when you mentioned subscribers. Each ad unit comes with the ability to subscribe to the RSS feed. During our initial beta, Opera.com, generated over 1k subscribers in 4 weeks using our platform.

Thanks again for mentioning the new product.

    Best regards,
    Bill Flitter
