48% of Marketers Will Try Social Networks in 2007

JupiterResearch has issued a new report entitled “Social Networking Sites: Defining Advertising Opportunities in a Competitive Landscape” (rolls off the tongue, doesn’t it?) and ClickZ is all over it.

In 2007, as many as 48 percent of brand marketers will deploy marketing on social networking channels. Last year, about 38 percent were messaging on the channel. Adoption of social marketing tactics stems from the discovery “30 percent of frequent social networkers trust their peers’ opinions when making a major purchase decision, but only 10 percent trust an advertisement,” said Emily Riley, JupiterResearch analyst and lead author of the report.

Now would be a good time to be #1 on Google for social media marketing then. ;-)

The other 52% will be stymied by the engineering department, clueless CEOs, or near sighthed marketing directors who think that it is a passing fad (if they have heard of it at all). But “trying” it and doing it correctly are 2 different things.

    NO DOUBT!
The really smart marketers have discovered first hand the power of social networking, the value of connection via common and uncommon interests, and the spiderability of exploration in these social networks!
I agree with the previous comment, that 48% seems a low number. I do everything myself, I do not hire anyone, so it is time consuming YET, infinitely rewarding. Particularly, with connecting to and reaching a global audience! It is simply incredible!!!
*And, highly addicting…in a good way(especially on this day of blog silence, 4/30..I said it was addicting!).
Did I mention my forthcoming book, ‘Notes From the MotherShip~Naked Invisibles’ out 09/2007?
