Just too big an investment to get the latest device if it's only for one network. As Andrena says too - the prices are still ridiculous. Why can't I get an older model PDA/phone for cheap? However this is prone to dilution in that given a multitude of social networks there's no guarantee that all your friends live on the same one. I'm currently running MSN Messegner, Google Talk and Skype on my desktop because I have friends who exclusively use one of these. I wouldn't like to have to carry 3 mobile phones with me because of that reason ... Interesting idea.
