Google Analytics Down?

Monday, July 30th, 2007;
-- Andy Beal |

If you’ve not seen updated reports from Google Analytics since sometime on Saturday, please leave a comment. A few people are reporting the same and I’ve dropped an email to the GA team to see what’s up.

Please leave a comment if you’re seeing the same.

Thanks!

UPDATE: Here’s the explanation from Google

There is a temporary reporting delay within Google Analytics accounts. For most accounts, reporting is current through this past Saturday night. Please note that no data will be lost - data will continue to be collected and processed during this time.

We are in the process of fully updating your Google Analytics account data and will display it within your reports as soon as possible. Please note, you are still able to log in to your accounts and access all the data through Saturday. We will update this blog when reporting is fully restored.

We apologize for any inconvenience this delay in reporting has caused. Thank you for using Google Analytics.

Why did it take 2 days and some whining for us to get this information? Come on guys, we know it’s free, but when you’re telling us that GA is as robust as any analytics tool, we expect at least some better communication.

UPDATE 2: Google reports that data is starting to filter back through…

We are starting to update reporting in all Google Analytics accounts affected by the delay. As of 5pm PST this evening, some users will start to see part or all of the data from the period between Saturday and now appear in reports. We expect updates for all accounts to continue through Monday night into tomorrow and will update this blog when reporting is fully restored.

  1. David Erickson Says:

Yes, it’s down. I have the exact same problem across 10 sites.

  2. Adrian Lee Says:

Yep, got that on 2 little sites I have running GA.
One site recorded 1 page view on Sunday, the other recorded none. While Saturdays page views looked in the normal kind of range. So thinking nothings been recorded since fairly late Saturday, UK time.

  3. Rob Lewis Says:

Yep, I got one visitor showing on Sunday (UK) - noticed something similar happen in the middle of last week and it seemed to catch up a day or two after.

    Rob.

  4. Jay Harper Says:

Yes, I’m seeing it as well, across a broad spectrum of sites…

  5. haentz Says:

Yep, same here. This morning a 9am, when the stats were supposed to updated the graph dropped to zero for all my tracked sites.

  6. Andy Beal Says:

Thanks guys. GA often has a lag in reporting data, but not normally this long and not without some comment from someone at Google. Maybe the stitches busted on the recent facelift. ;-)

  7. Greg J. Smith Says:

I hope they fix it soon, I’m going into withdrawal.

  8. Al Scillitani Says:

Same here and this is why we are starting to look into different analytics tools.

  9. imnotadoctor Says:

GA down all weekend for me.

  10. Chris Says:

Down for me too, very frustrating.

  11. Michael Martinez Says:

Down. Not a big thing for me but thought I’d chime in. :)

  12. C Pons Says:

We have reports but we have noticed that it doesn’t work fin, only a few records…´
    (in Spain)

  13. Anna Says:

Mine has been down for a few days too (Austin, TX). Hope they fix it soon.

  14. David V. Says:

Seeing this across multiple Analytics accounts. Was just about to hit the forums when I saw this post. I am getting some information since Sunday, but very limited.

  15. Erik Says:

I use Analytics for two different sites. Analytics for both reports zero traffic for July 29, and reduced traffic for July 28.

  16. Sandra Ferreira Says:

Yep. My first thought was “have I offended the Google gods in some way?” … but no. Comparisons with Urchin stats and other site provided stats packages don’t jive - for the last few days. Something is definitely wrong.

  17. Michael Says:

Google Analytics down for wink.com as well. Started dropping about 3 PM on July 28. And down completely since July 29. Usually when this happens it comes back in a few hours. This seems to be the longest outage. Surprised no comment from Google.

  18. Chris Rutherford Says:

Ya I have 30 accounts on my analytics, and noticed 2 days ago that all of my sites traffic dropped badly… Then yesterday, 0 visits on all my sites… Hopefully they didn’t loose the data

Found you through google blog search, btw..

  19. Andy Beal Says:

Thanks guys - Google should have an explanation post up shortly.

  20. Michael Says:

    Here’s Google’s explanation: http://analytics.blogspot.com/2007/07/update-temporary-reporting-delay -since.html

  21. Chris Rutherford Says:

About time.. Now I can start my adwords campaigns knowing that they are still collecting data. I know in the past they have always said they will continue to collect data, but this time they didn’t mention anything, leading me to believe otherwise

  22. Keri Morgret Says:

It’s been down for all of my accounts since Saturday evening (Pacific time).

Thanks for bugging them Andy. I sent a message through the contact form asking if they could put up something on their blog. Looks like they finally did, though it hasn’t hit Google Reader yet.

  23. Ontario Emperor Says:

The 1-2 day delay in acknowledging the problem is troubling. Of course, we get what we pay for…

  24. Andy Beal Says:

@Ontario - I would normally agree with you. But Google’s working hard to convince big companies that GA is as robust as other paid solutions. This doesn’t help their cause.

  25. Kirby Collins Says:

I’m showing 0 on my sites, at least my adsensce is reporting traffic.

  26. Silver Says:

It’s really not that hard to have a page up that lists current issues and estimated time-of-fix for a system. Really.

Why doesn’t Google have this? I’m still unimpressed with the new Google Analytics, just as I blogged earlier.

  27. Glen Says:

Noticed this on all my sites aswell, glad to see im not the only one

Although I still love the service in general

  28. Shannon Says:

Yeah, I have the tan tan WordPress plugin and it hasn’t been reporting the analytics usage either. I just thought it was something on my end.

Thanks for the post. I’m not going to worry about it now.

    ~Shannon

  29. Mark Says:

I was wondering what the heck was going on with GA lately. I thought it was something wrong with my blog. Hope Google gets it updating again soon.

  30. jim Says:

Yeah, down here as well as of today.

  31. John Says:

It’s still down for me… Has anyone seen it come back for them?

  32. Andy Beal Says:

@john - it’s still down. Apparently the mice that spin the wheel are on strike, holding out for extra cheese rations. ;-)

  33. Keri Morgret Says:

Andy, you mean the mice don’t have their own cafeterias? I bet that’s why Google doesn’t report all of your inlinks either, those mice just don’t have enough energy to find all of them.

  34. Andy Beal Says:

It looks like data from Sunday is starting to show up.

  35. Nick Stamoulis Says:

Looks like it is starting to show up seeing data across many client sites…

  36. Hershel Miller Says:

I’ve got Google Analytics placed on my blog.

Earlier today it reported 0 or 2 visitors, as of right now traffic numbers have returned.

phew, and I got all nervous and stuff ;-)

  37. Bushido Says:

It’s down on 4 of mine.

  38. horisly Says:

    it’s ok now in china.

  39. Perde Says:

Oddly enough I have not experienced any problem with GA recently hmm.
