"I think they are going a bit too far there. They already run a lot of services that need improvement."

I don't think they buy most of these services to actually improve them. They are just engraining there power across the internet so that no one will ever be able to over take them.

Google's mission is to increase share holder wealth and secure long term success. What better way then to buy the INTERNET.

Interesting idea. Buying out a consumer ISP would give Google a leg up against the other major ISPs, and Yahoo (with their co-branded DSL offering with AT&T) when it comes to the net neutrality issue. I can see them pushing that as a main selling point to their service vs the other providers - Use our DSL and you don't pay extra for enhanced content (ie video from YouTube), when Yahoo/AT&T, et. al are going to charge you extra for things like that. Yeah, I can definately see them using that to get a stranglehold on the DSL/ISP market. That's probably a big plus in their consideration (if true) because it gets them around the potential of having consumers pay extra to use their services, they can simply side-step the whole issue because they can offer it up directly.

Why not? Google buys just about everything else. My opinion is it's all rumors at this point though. We shall see. Thanks!
