Working the Refs – Google & Microsoft’s March Madness

“We would be concerned by any kind of acquisition of Yahoo by Microsoft,” Google’s Chief Executive Eric Schmidt told Reuters.

Oh purlease!!!

The posturing between Microsoft and Google is getting quite ridiculous. It seems that if one of the two giants tries to improve its position, the other gripes that it’s unfair.

Says Schmidt…

“We would hope that anything they did would be consistent with the openness of the Internet, but I doubt it would be.”

Schmidt pointed to Microsoft’s past history and “the things that it has done that have been so difficult for everyone”, but he did not elaborate.

“We are concerned that there are things Microsoft could do that would be bad for the Internet,” said Schmidt.

I understand that consumers need to be protected from companies obtaining a monopoly, but Google and Microsoft should let the appropriate regulators do the protecting.

Let GOOG and MSFT go head-to-head and spend billions of dollars competing against each other. But, let’s leave the “working the refs” to the basketball coaches, shall we?

    Didn’t Google just buy an SEO company and fail to mention that they wouldn’t get involved in the industry? I don’t think that a move like that helps with the Internet’s openness. I know if they do get involved, my company is going to use Google for SEO.

    Why are you picking on Coach K? It’s because of me, isn’t it? That’s okay, I’m used to being persecuted for my loyalties. Only makes me stronger ;) .

    @Jordan – not at all. I’m picking on Coach K, ‘cos he’s Coach K. ;-)
