Let’s face it: nothing should surprise us nowadays. “Google is conquering space!”, it sounds like a fairly decent April Fool’s Joke, doesn’t it? But guess what: it’s not a joke, it’s was actually an announcement (does Google Sky ring a bell?). No matter how incredible a scenario may sound, nothing would surprise me if the word “Google” were to be included in the headline.
Also, there are countless rumors which one constantly bumps into when following industry-related websites. Let’s face it: you may hear something today and it may seem that it represents a certainty, yet find out tomorrow that it was nothing more than a baseless rumor and that, in fact, things are actually developing in the opposite direction.
And, since certain rumors do tend to affect stock prices as well, it should come as no surprise that quite a few of them are not exactly what one would call “innocent”. After all, when we’re talking about billions upon billions of dollars, everyone has an agenda and you never know who the person behind a certain rumor may be (an influential person from the company in question perhaps)?
Under such circumstances, it’s extremely easy to fall for all sorts of traps when it comes to the information you gain as a result of surfing the Web. In the end, you have to go through a lot of absolutely useless content in order to find a few hidden gems here and there. That being stated, I’m sure it’s obvious why believing everything you read online is never the way to go.
“Innocent until proven guilty” is a principle which most definitely does not apply online and is, instead, replaced with the “guilty until proven innocent” way of thinking. Always analyze things carefully and don’t get carried away or you will, without a doubt, be in for quite an unpleasant reality check down the road.
Since we seem to constantly celebrate April Fool’s Day online, it is imperative that you develop an attitude which will help you avoid falling for potentially dangerous traps. And falling for such traps, my friend, is not an option if you are serious about being and staying informed in an industry which definitely makes everything a challenge.
