I could not understand why you use only "real state". I think this is very much applicable in every where. I liked the way you explained key word matters. Nice and clean. thanks.

Hey Joe,

I was thinking about writing article on strategies in selecting keywords. Damn! you wrote it before me :-0.

Anyways, I'd be glad to refer your article once the contest is finished. However, I’d have split your "Self Promotion Keywords" into "Identity Keywords" (e.g. Broker, Supplier, Exporter, Manufacturer, Wholeseller, etc.) and "Promotional Modifier" (e.g. Specialty, Tailor-made, Trustworthy, etc.)

The States' two letters has already come into the keyword stemming control of Google. Even though, in my view, it's always wise to your total spelling of the state than just two letters. i.e. always prefer "California" instead of "CA".

While playing with meta-tags, I found that separate title & description meta-tags for each page increase a lot of SE traffic. The keyword set doesn't have much influence.

One thing is also important for local businesses are the Local Search. Real Estate businesses are extremely local. So, getting listed in the the local business search of Search Engines is also important.

For link building, the best way to search for links is the very Target Keywords. I am sure search engines can never understand if the link is coming relevant pages. Come on! they haven't got to that much semantic level. They can understand how many pages found for your target keywords are linking to your site. So, it's always wise to search for possible pages found in the SERPs for your target keywords that you can put your link in.

<em>Asif Anwar's last blog post..<a href='http://marketinggossip.blogspot.com/2008/06/13-prophecies-of-internet-marketing.html' rel="nofollow">13 Prophecies of Internet Marketing - The Near & Far Future of Online Marketing</a></em>

I am glad you liked the article, Joe. No, the Wordpress XML sitemap plugin will not interfere with a prior sitemap. Especially if, like you said, your blog is in a sub directory of the rest of the site.

Great post. One question regarding the Wordpress XML sitemap plugin. What if I have already submitted an XML sitemap? Will the plugin interfere with that? My blog will be a sub-set of my site in a subdirectory.

Hey everyone. Joseph Ferrara over at the Sellsius Real Estate Blog just pointed out that Trulia has started to add the "nofollow" attribute to their external link tags. Interestingly enough, they have also gone so far as to encode the URLs as well. I suppose they are really trying not to alter SERPs. This makes sense given that they would actually be helping allot of the local web sites that they compete against in geographic keywords.

Thanks to everyone that has read my article. Don't forget to pass it on to your friends!
