Nicely done. Not only does the article make a good road map for keyword research, it also is a nice reference piece allowing people to jump to particular sections based on what they want to do.

Good work!

Neat article Judd... I'll try your mastery out on a few sites I've got going live in the next month :)

They all have highly contested keywords so my usual ad hoc SEO approach isn't gonna cut it :)

@Symbian - Maybe Trends doesn't offer stability, but in my experience, none of them really do.

The gist is to get an overall idea for how certain keywords are performing given your region (if region is applicable... and it's almost ALWAYS applicable), and then use your best judgement on what's most relevant and offers the best chance at success.

Thanks everybody for your great comments though, and thanks especially to those that have come by my site and dropped me an email.

And thanks for helping me in this contest too!

Congratulations on an excellent post. I especially like the excel spreadsheet example - it would improve your post a lot to attach an excel template for people to download!

Also, good title - one of the two entries I have felt link clicking on from the list of entries. Will do my bit to bookmark, sphinn and promote, good luck!

Wow, that's one super detailed post!

I have a new found respect for all the SEO guys out there - I honestly had no idea the amount of work and effort involved in just working out the keywords to target.

Thanks for the great post.
