I never rely only on SEO as I am aware that with SEO if SEM, SMO and website analysis is there then only SEO can stay top in competition. Though coding part is not necessary but many experts have programming knowledge also. I like you post and stumbling it here http://lindsayhogan.stumbleupon.com/ so that my Whole SEO group at stumbleupon can share your post.

I agree with your last point. As the internet becomes more and more popular, so will SEO and SEM because of an increase in online trade and e-commerce.

Thanks Wayne and you are right. It is an ever-changing industry that requires a lot of work, but I love it :-)

Agreed.

SEO is just one part of a very holistic approach to how we serve our clients.

I think it's also worth mentioning the order in which these core skills are introduced into a project.

The content produced often has a short life cycle of activity (typically 30 days or so) which is what I call the Social Loop.

While it's entirely possible to massage SEO into a website after launch, it's often quite traumatic.

Similar, it's also often difficult to make the front page of Digg with an article that's quite old.

Good stuff, Melissa...
