When using the normal search many people are intereted in the ads, because they often give relevant information and often i am really interested in buying something. But when i search for pictures i am not interested in buying something. I want to get pictures! The only profitable ads aould be ads for high quality pics or for posters.

I've always found the image search results to be only somewhat relevant to what I'm looking for, so I think they should improve the quality of the results they are showing first before they try to make some money off of them!

Why not just stick a few ads on image search result pages? Obviously related to your search term. I assume they could have made millions over the years it was untapped.
