I tried it this morning. Several things I do really like and some I don't. I downloaded FF3 the other day and was BLOWN AWAY by the speed and handling compared to FF2. I am in China so internet speeds are spotty when browsing websites outside China. FF3 was like a getting a Ferrari when you had an old Ford. I find the speed of Chrome to be about comparable to FF3 on the websites I use most, forums and image galleries. I guess for the time being I like FF3 better but I have to say that Chrome has a very nice feel to it and once it gets tweakable with plugins it will be very impressive indeed. I particularly love the idea of each tab being a window unto itself. I can't tell you all how often FF has crashed when I am in the middle of a long posting - and thank the GODS at Mozilla for the FF crash recovery - So IF the individual process method doesn't crash the whole thing but instead just one tab then that's a great thing. Also the separating tabs into windows of their own is particularly good. I often power search when sourcing products and it's good to be able to just start another window with all the tabs related to the thing I am searching for at the moment.

So, chalk me up to someone who likes Chrome out of the gate. I am not worried about whether Google is tracking my browsing habits because there is no way for anyone to prove that I was ever at any particular terminal at any particular time. At least not until Big Brother declares that I must DNA verify each time I "log on" to "the web".

Competition keeps everyone on their toes. IE7/8 may be great but in my mind Microsoft is responsible for a lot of wasted time by users debugging it's product. For that they can't make it up by now coming with a browser that essentially steals the best innovations from Opera and FireFox.

Well, that's my 1ct worth.

@Corey - feel free to debate @Dean, he's always looking for a good debate. Just play nice with each other.

I believe that this is all part of "organizing the world's information." Millions already use the Google toolbar, millions enter URLs into the Google search box--why not complete the experience with a browser?

Will it be any good? We'll find out later today. :-)

@ Corey - ok, you're a critic :)

I hope you are not insinuating that it's wrong to "stick it" to technology that sucks, just because it's the long time incumbant.

"Why can’t they just stick to what they are supposed to be doing?" GAWD! You sound like a winey little MSFT minion. What Google is doing is a little thing called 'innovation' which is what they are supposed to be doing.

But I suppose you are right. I mean why did Ford have to go and put horse and buggies out of business? And why did modern medicine have to go meddling with the perfectly acceptable use of leaches to cure disease? And because I live in the South, why did they have to replace the good old hand fan with that pesky air conditioning technology? Let's cede the browser business to MSFT so they can continue to provide horrible user experience. After all they did come up with that innovative and nifty "tabbed" browser feature...errr...oh wait...that was those pesky ner-do-wells at Mozilla (Firefox).

Google is spreading its wings and very fast. They has definitely built themselves a good name over the years, and now they're using it to their advantage to expand their horizon.

Let's wait and see how this browser will turn out, but I have a very good feeling about this.

Why can't they just stick to what they are supposed to be doing? Organizing the World's information. Why do they have to do everything that Microsoft and Apple do?
