Great list and they truly are things I wish I had known when I first got started, but I'd like to add relationship marketing to that list. Relationship marketing is a fancy word for list building. Having a mailing list that you can communicate with and build a trusting business relationship with is critical. I also wish video marketing was around when I first got started. That was before it's time but never the less I wish it had been around. Video sites like Adwido make it easier for online marketers with a small budget.

Great post. Especially number 3. If people were half a rich as they claim off of doing nothing, they wouldn't be on line trying to get everyone else to click through and buy something.

I disagree with 9 though. You get what you pay for in the long run. Going overseas for cheap money has cost more than one company I've spoken with a lot more in the long run.

Chris Tynski Writes..

Quote..

"5. Building your business/brand is your goal, not hits, diggs, rss subscribers, or accolades.

It can be easy to pat yourself on the back when you see quantifiable goals reached. Getting visitors, diggs, rss subscribers, or accolades from your peers might feel great, but it’s really only of value to you if it helps to make you money or to build your business. Visitors do not always equal sales, Diggs do not always guarantee links, RSS subscriptions do not always equal an engaged community; Make sure you are thinking about your true goal."

End Quote..

I wish this could be tattooed on the frontal lobe of everyone who is either new to Internet Marketing, or for those who are in the pursuit of, tweets, twitters, or a gazillion digg hits - with the mindset that it is a path to profitability for their product or service. Find a product or service that people are looking for, or who are searching for a problem to solve. Stick with the basics. Links, anchor text, content, good SEO, and profitable keyword research.

That, at least to me, is the blueprint for a "make money" online mindset. I know that Web 2.0 is all the rage, but, sorry, Twitter's, "Diggers", or whoever is coming to your site or blog via the great post you provided - are - generally not interesting in what you are selling. But, since I don't have all the answers concerning Social Networking - I could be wrong. Not the first time..

Just my 1 /1/2 cents worth..

Still livin in a Web 1.0 world, I am..

We have to spend some time to be online everyday when we are internet marketers. And this is reasonable to know any information which is always renewed. I do have to follow this because I want to be serious in the activities of internet marketing.

I tihnk this is good information but if you're active in marketing forums, you can learn a lot from other seasoned players. Also, never be afraid to ask for help. Internet will continually evolve so it's a never-ending learning process. Kudos on this blog post.

Thank you for this article, I am going to have to look into "black hat" forums.

I liked the part about original content. I try to do this on my blog by reviewing books I like and transcribing some of the print-based content to the web (and of course giving credit to the author in the spirit of radical transparency!)

Cheers.
