I do not believe Google is a spring board, look at Lars and Jens Rasmussen. These 2 brothers were the lead developers of Google Maps, and now are the lead developers of Google Wave. Google has a whole team of all-stars and you can't keep all of them. With the names that Google has on their staff, employees are gonna find more interesting projects, better or different opportunities, etc. Another thing is Google may switch employees projects, for instance the Steve Chen one of the founders of Youtube, he works for Google but has recently been moved on to a different project other than Youtube. This is just a natural cycle, nothing to over-read into, yet atleast...

As Google's prowess continues to grow, there are going to be head hunters everywhere. While Google compensates pretty well from what I've heard, it can be pretty tough to bump all your staff's pay to keep them safe from the one-sy/two-sy companies that will pay 15% more just to fill a critical gap.

Nothing to see here... business as usual imo.
