I always make the mistake of thinking I am on top of everything, and then I read a post like this and remember there is just too much to know. Thanks for the tip. I consider myself an advanced user, I frequently use Google Co-op to create custom search engines and also use the "site:" operator to search one specific site. But these new search options will definitely come in handy. I like the timeline feature and the review feature. There's nothing worse than finding old outdated information.

As somewhat of a tangent, while we are on the topic of search, I just wanted to mention the new site Aardvark. It's pretty revolutionary. It's a social network. You tell them what subject you'd be comfortable answering questions about and then you can ask any question you want, about any subject. Within five minutes you'll have answers in your e-mail inbox. It kind of turns traditional search on its head.

While I agree that the options should be hidden by default, I'm a regular user of 'Search Options' especially I like the 'Past Hour' option introduced recently. I strongly believe these options will increase the effectiveness of the search for advanced users.
