Google Apps: You Can Run but ….

13

google angel haloEver get the feeling that as Google announces more and more services for more and more people at more and more spots on the globe that there is less and less room to go without a primary colored logo looking over you?

Now, don’t get me wrong. I am feeding this animal as much as the next guy because I use a lot of Google’s services. Most of them perform just as advertised and they do allow virtually anyone from the single person shop to the multi-national conglomerate some form of relief from some traditional IT and Internet headaches. It’s just getting a little creepy when I sit back and think about how Google uses their blog to announce things in an almost casual fashion that most companies would be firing off press releases left and right about. An example:

Why I May Run Ads in My Twitter Stream

17

It’s been interesting to see more and more bloggers moving their thoughts to Twitter. I’ve certainly found myself blogging less, and instead using Twitter to share my thoughts, links, and news.

The downside to that approach is that complete inability to directly monetize that content on Twitter. With Marketing Pilgrim, I can place ads around our posts–and even in our RSS feeds–which helps offset the amount of time and money that goes into bringing Marketing Pilgrim updates to you multiple times a day. When I forsake the blog for Twitter, I’m giving up anywhere from a Big Mac to a filet minion–in terms of lost ad revenue.

Tech Giants Ask the FCC to “Preserve an Open Internet”

1

It appears the leaders of some of the world’s largest tech companies are not taking any chances that the FCC could be persuaded to ditch Net Neutrality at the last minute–they just sent the following letter to FCC.

Dear Chairman Genachowski:

We write to express our support for your announcement that the Federal Communications Commission will begin a process to adopt rules that preserve an open Internet. We believe a process that results in common sense baseline rules is critical to ensuring that the Internet remains a key engine of economic growth, innovation, and global competitiveness.

Google’s Revolving Talent Door Spins in Europe

Comments Off

Google EuropeWe have spoken before of the task that Google is faced with on a daily basis. While the company attracts the best and the brightest help it’s not as easy to keep them around as you might think. The trouble with having a lot of ‘talent’ are the egos that can be attached to that particular set of people. So once they climb on board The Goog the assimilation process may not take hold with everyone. As a result, they often look for greener pastures elsewhere while giving Google top spot on their resume. It can’t hurt, right?

TechCrunch tells the story today of another C level exit this time on the European front

European Directories has announced a big win this morning with the appointment of Ben Legg as Chief Operating Officer.

Waste Your Day Away with Google Chrome Experiments

Comments Off

Chrome-huh
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing…but playing games
Say it again

OK, maybe Google won’t adopt Frankie Goes to Hollywood’s "War" as the unofficial anthem of its Chrome browser, but fun and games? Sure, why not?

Since early this year, Chrome Experiments has been collecting a bunch of user-created JavaScript applications that are designed to show off the powerful technology behind Chrome. This one for example, I call the "Internet Explorer" emulator, because it (literally) crashes the browser! ;-)

One of the newer submissions helps you turn Google Chrome into something ultra-productive: Ping Pong!

Or maybe you prefer a little asteroid blasting?

Of course, Google’s hoping that these experiments will help lift the browser’s 2-3% market share. I’d suggest that getting the Mac & Linux official builds released might have a better chance of helping with that goal. ;-)

FAIL! Google Running PageRank AdWords Ad?

10

So, yeah, I thought Google killed PageRank in Webmaster Tools?

More importantly, why is Google running an ad that encourages PageRank obsession?

FAIL!
