It seems like I've touched a nerve. Apparently, not many of you read blogs on a regular basis AND I bet you hate Saturday Night Live--how dare they parody hollywood stars!

Closing comments. You'll have to find another playground for your groaning. :-)

Connie's claim is totaly bogus, and my work with Paul has nothing to do with any of his agents, nor have I been banned from the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation! We have had a wonderful association for many years. In fact, I just dropped off some terrific quilts to them!

Also, Hilly does not represent nor is she employed therein in regards to the Official website..she participates as a super volunteer translator for the French community. Her opinion/comment on things are as valuable as anyones. Thanks to all the translators indeed!

Don't know why folks are putting Pam & Hilly down as they seem like nice folks & are well respected in the Starsky and Hutch fandom. From what I understand Pam's site is Paul's official one & I can't imagine the EGPAF banning her. It's probably just mean folks bad mouthing her. No matter what he does on tv we will watch it cuz he's our Starsky. :) He's been thru alot & still surviving and that's an inspiration. Count me as one more person sticking up for Paul Michael Glaser. One thing about the ads, at least we get to see him in tv again. :) Go Paul Michael Glaser! :)

Wow. I sure hope Paul's having a good laugh about how outraged his fans are that this duffus writer has used his name in vain.

Paul knows he used to be one of the "hottest things around." Paul knows he didn't like it and tried to get away from it as quickly as he could. Paul knows that he now does guest spots here and there in between golfing with Jimmy Caan and Sly Stallone. I'm sure he's okay with it. Do you play golf Andy?

Paul also knows that people can be cruel and not even realize it, not even think of the person they're insulting to make a "point" about the mobile industry.

I bet poor old Andy just resents the fact that his mates made him play "Hutch" at recess when everyone was playing Starsky and Hutch. Only the cool kids got to be Starsky. Andy gets to take it out on Starsk now that he's grown up and writing about the "mobile industry."

Would that Paul had a career like dear old Andy's.

Score, Andy.

Wow. Once again, "Hilly" and Ms. Merserve seem to have taken a proprietary interest in Mr. Glaser, like they're personal friends of his or own him. Andy, (and everyone else), for your information, Ro Diamond, Paul's agent, says Mr. Glaser and his representative agency, SDB Partners, has NO comment on Ms. Pamela Merserve, as the ONLY relationship she has with Glaser is as an "overenthusiatic fan." In addition, the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric Aids Foundation has stated Ms. Merserve has "been banned from volunteer activities with the organization" and that Mr. Glaser "is not officially associated with any official website or 'liaison' other than his agent or other reps at SDB Partners." (Call either SDB or the EGPAF in Washington, DC...*I* did). Mr. Glaser is a great guy...I'm not criticizing him, but those ads DO make me flinch. What makes me cringe even more is the fanatical devotion of his self-entitled "fans." I think "Sue" and "Gabriella" pretty much have the right idea.

Dear Mr. Beal,
You only WISH you were half the man, Mr. Glaser is, I can tell you that!!! Paul has went through so much in his lifetime...more than one man ever should. You should be ashamed of yourself! Maybe you should examine your own values a little further, before you make snap decisions about anyone else. Mr. Glaser is an actor, and if he chooses to make a living doing consumer credit commercials, or cameos on TV shows...that's what he does!!!...HELLO?!!! Paul has earned his living his entire life...maybe that's something you would know nothing about.

Good day, Sir!

I'm with Sue. I'm a huge PMG-fan, too, but... good grief. People up there? Get a life.
I guess it says a lot about the mental state of some so-called "Paul-fans" if they can't take a joke about their SAINT!Paulie.
And btw: Paul is still hot! :D

Dude: I'm a serious PMG/Starsky fan and I thought the post was hilarious. Easy to remember the product you were talking about because of the analogy. Course, actors are more than the roles they play and last time I checked (heh, heh) David Starsky wasn't making debt reduction commercials, so I'd guess that SMS is more the Paul Michael Glaser of the Mobile Industry rather than the David Starsky of it, but...heh. Yeah. I dug it.

Just know all of the man's fans don't come out to scream if someone makes a funny.

Shame on you!

Mr. Glaser did not intend to be "the hottest thing around". There is nothing wrong with doing debt reduction commercials. It's a job that gets you a bit more income, so what. Don't most people celebrity or not want more income? Got to pay for all those text messages and such.

Implying Mr. Glaser has to eke out a living doing cameos and commercials is laughable. As Pam said, he is very busy and has many things on the go. Go to his site, watch a few interviews too. You'll see that Mr. Glaser is a creative, kind, compassionate and hard working man with good work ethics. He has done much to bring awareness to many good causes, yet he does not bring attention to himself the way many other celebrities do. I think that is commendable.

Mr. Beal, I wish you a good day and may your career 30 years down the road continue to be successful and diverse as has Mr. Glasers .

Andy,

Well, so now you are saying that Mr. Glaser has to eke out a paycheck by doing commercials and cameos. Why did you single out Mr. Glaser? There are plenty of other well known older actors and actresses that are doing commercials and I'm sure they aren't doing it because they need the money. Let's see we have Robert Wagner selling the concept of Reverse Mortgages, Lindsay Wagner selling Select Comfort Beds, Wilfred Brimley for Liberty Medical Diabetic Supplies, and others such as Peter Graves doing Geico commercials along with Joan Rivers. I could go on. So to single out one person is out of line. You should have never said that.

I see you updated your original statement, but the damage is done I'm afraid. You can't go back.

Dear Andy
Did you do your homework first?? Hilly and Pam have already mentioned much of what Paul has been doing along with a host of other creative endeavors. He graciously has shared his talents and has been using them to not only entertain us ,but provoke us into thinking about the connectiveness of our fellow brothers and sisters. I don't think Paul asked to be "the hottest thing around" in the late 70's....the media made that happen. At least he earned that appeal as it seems like in this day and age, one has to do something shocking to be "the hottest thing around".And so what if he chooses to do commercials for a credit company....big deal.

Dear Andy,
Celebrity endorsement in advertising is a long-standing marketing ploy. People far wealthier than Mr Glaser have put their name behind products - some who already have enough money to found their own sovereignty. It's hard to imagine Mr Glaser having to "eke" out a living from anything. Earn a few extra $$$$ perhaps - more power to him - but I doubt that anybody would spot him lining up for welfare payments at his local dole office or washing windscreens at traffic lights in order to put a crust on his table.
Regards, June.

echoing my good friend Pam and adding more.

Instead of your gratuitous attempt at humor (I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt here) you might try taking a look at Mr Glaser's humanitarian work over the past 20+ years and compare his self-effacing attitude to getting focus to where it is needed instead of getting the limelight on himself.

The next time you want to make a comparison with a celebrity and the latest flash in the publicity pan try one of the stars who discover a cause just in time to promote an album/tour/flagging career.

To follow up what Gillian asks - where will most of the 'stars' of today be in 30 years time.....Z list in Vegas if they are lucky; still hanging on to 'I was x'.
If anything Mr Glaser tends to avoid harking back to that brief (only 4 year) period in his steady career.
think on....
No, better still - try thinking; you might enjoy it.

If I'm lucky, feeling glad that I'm still remembered enough that a blogger uses me for a joke in a blog post. ;-)
