NFL Video Giveth and Taketh Away

2

NFL LogoThe NFL is an interesting study in how social media can be your best friend or your worst enemy. The NFL is a media savvy, marketing powerhouse and is now the center of the sports world with baseball gone and other leagues just getting under way. Thursdays and Sundays belong to the NFL and there is a lot of talk in between as well.

Twitter, Meet the President

11

Obama Twitter Data JPSocial media is about community, right? Social media is about relationships, correct? What is required in a genuine relationship? People exchanging ideas and thoughts with each other and getting to know each other is how I look at it in an incredibly basic sense. At least that’s what I think. While social media is considered to be advancing our ability to connect with others it is still important to caution just how much we trust who is saying what. In other words, your relationship with many is more likely to be with a handler than the real person.

Cup of Joe: The Secret to Getting Rich on the Internet, is in Las Vegas – Part 2

6

This is part two of Secret to Getting Rich on the Internet, series. If you haven’t read part one, you probably should do that first. :)

So if you are reading this you probably read last week’s post, where I promised that I would reveal a secret tactic that can make you rich on the internet. Before i do that, I want to talk about secrets in general for a moment. Quite honestly, most “secrets”on the internet are BS. This is because oftentimes they are bits of knowledge and advice that seem obvious to many, but practiced by few. This is generally because the best tactics are the ones that don’t show their true value until you have years of experience trying them out. Many of the most valuable “secret” tactics (including the one below) are things that many of us do everyday but are not aware of it.

Google Chrome OS Coming Next Week

5

Google first announced is Chrome operating system in July. Open source and targeted at netbooks, the OS could launch within a week, according to TechCrunch.

Although TechCrunch reports that Chrome will probably only be available for certain targeted netbooks in the coming launch, it may not be ready for even that. In its original, official announcement, Google said it would open source its code later in 2009, with devices coming to market in the second half of 2010.

Despite TechCrunch’s reliable anonymous source, this rumor may be more speculation and confusion than drastically moving up the launch timeline. Launching the OS to the open source community—part of the planned development process anyway—has always been part of the plan. And recently, some netbooks (such as one from Acer) have already come to market with a Google operating systemAndroid, the Google mobile OS that’s slowly taking on the smartphone arena.

Google To Premiere New Ad Analytics

4

It’s been two and a half years since Google acquired digital marketplace DoubleClick for $3.1B. Over that time, they’ve gotten approval for the deal, made it official and merged their technologies more and more closely. This week they’re announcing another step to that integration—new analytics for its ad manager and better integration with its Ad Planner.

Right now, advertisers must plan their campaigns in one tool and execute them in another, according to Ari Paparo, group product manager at Google. The new tools would integrate the ad platform better to bring planning, execution and measurement to one place.

The new analytics will be very similar to Google Analytics in layout and function:

News Corp. Getting Ready to Get Ready

10

Murdoch close upThe end of what you ask? The end of the newspaper industry? Sure, why not? That’s an easy one and we talk about that probably way too much. The end of free content? Now we’re getting warmer. Earlier this week we told of Rupert Murdoch’s master plan (or is that disastrous plan?) to remove his News Corp. content from the search engines like Google. That’s pretty big talk. Crazy talk possibly but big talk nonetheless. So do you just make that kind of threat then wait and see or do you then draw the line in the sand? You know, set a date as to when this grand gesture will occur. Well, let’s not get totally crazy or at least clear on that one. That smells too much like reality.
