I’m a disrupter of internet marketing news.

What does that mean?

It’s a fancy way of saying that I love to stir the pot. And I can think of no better way of doing just that, than by making broad comparisons between Google and Bing. Especially when I get to accuse Google of copying the underdog.

The lastest fodder comes thanks to a new feature launching today that will enable you to add you own image as the background to the Google homepage. Yep, you heard me. Google wants you to turn its homepage into Bing.

Today, we’re introducing a new feature that brings a whole new level of personalization to Google by letting you add a favorite photo or image to the background of the Google homepage. You can choose a photo from your computer, your own Picasa Web Album or a public gallery hosted by Picasa which includes a selection of beautiful photos.

Unfortunately for us budding photographers, the uploaded image will be confined to just your personal version of Google’s homepage–likely designed to stop this guy from having a heart attack.

P.S. Oh yeah, I’m back from my three week trip to New Zealand. Thanks to the awesome efforts by Jordan and Frank, I know you didn’t even notice. 😉

I am sad to say, but Google is the new microsoft. Ctr+C Ctr+V. I were maybe one of the biggest Google fans, but after today I am going back to MS.

  • I don’t get this one at all. Being a huge Coke brand fanatic it seems like Google is making some of the same mistakes that Coke made when they “re-invented” the original Coke.

Why does Google feel the need to chase a competitor (MS) that in reality can barely be seen in their rear view mirror?

Google, stick to who you are on some of the real basic stuff. Stick to your guns. This kind of stuff is a waste of time and resources.

    My 2 cents.
