This past week saw rumors of a stratospheric Groupon valuation ($25 billion) as well the New York Times’ great paywall experiment being announced. While we wrote a fair amount covering the Internet marketing news landscape there were a few items that did get the attention you think they may have deserved. Either that or we ignored them because they weren’t interesting but now they are interesting because we need them. So many options.
Facebook Used to Thwart a Robbery. Here’s the video version for you to ponder just how poorly the 911 system must be considered in the Cartersville, GA area (via cnet).
Microsoft is viewed as more ethical than Apple, Google or Facebook – Not even sure how Facebook got into a discussion about ethics unless it was one about having few if any.
LivingSocial raising between $400 to $500 million to be LivingBig – While Groupon valuation talk is making everyone and their brother talk about the new Internet bubble, LivingSocial is close to raising some serious cash themselves which will have them valued at $2 billion with this year’s revenue predicted to come in at the $500 million mark. These numbers make much more sense than Groupon’s do but once emotion, hype and greedy investment bankers want to push up a number all other talk is shelved. I am personally rooting for LivingSocial to put a serious dent in Groupon because no one wins if Groupon becomes the Google of the daily deal space. Remember, boys and girls, competition is good.
IE 9 released and a lot of folks download it - Now the question is why? Was it habit? Was it because they we asked to update everything else in their Windows system as well and just said “Sure, why not?” Was it because IE 8 was really awful? So many questions.
Digg founder Kevin Rose digs way out of site before the bell tolls – To admit just how uncool and un-tech I am I have never dug the Digg culture so it’s slow and agonizing demise isn’t very personal to me. Now that founder Kevin Rose is leaving it looks like I may not get a chance to be cool (I’m crushed at the prospect but I think I can make it). Has Digg a hole to bury itself now? Apparently many of the ‘old guard’ are on the way out too as Reddit has just one coder and AllTheWeb shuts its service down on April 4 (courtesy of @streko). The winds of change are blowing for sure.
Danny Sullivan revisits his 25 things he hates about Google after 5 years – In his usual thorough and exhaustive fashion, Sullivan takes a look at the list he put together 5 years ago and sees just how far Google has come in that time. Interesting read for sure.
What else did you see that you think was worthy of some Pilgrim attention? Enjoy your Sunday.

I think that these are only rummors!
