Google Business Photo Service Officially Launched

For the past year or so there have been rumblings of how Google was embarking on a mission to take pictures of the inside of businesses as well as map their locations. It was called Store View initially. Yesterday, however, Google’s Marissa Mayer formally rolled out the service as Google Business Photos during the Social – Loco Conference in San Francisco. Take a look for yourself.

Initially, the service was free to businesses in the markets that it was available in (see complete list below) and there seems to be no information to the contrary as of yet.

Here is the complete list of cities and regions where this service can be applied for internationally.

This seems like a great service from Google, especially if they are offering it for free. However, their customer service when it comes to Google Places is still lacking. I’d prefer they get that up to speed and then get the photo service ramped up.

@Nick – There really is NO customer service for Places at this point. They are concentrating on specific markets and they will get the lion’s share of the attention. Google seems to be learning that not all things that are automated are in the best interest of the customer and Google as well.

Aww, the Triangle gets missed again. Guess Google still doesn’t see us as the hotbed of kick-butt search professionals that we are. You should get on that, Frank. ;-)

@Jenny – Yea, we tend to fly under the radar a little too much since most of these programs happen elsewhere. We’ll just muddle through I suppose :-)

If you look to apply, the drop down for US cities are actually much larger than what was mentioned in their content. Not sure why that is the case, but heads up to all!

I don’t know about the service, but I love the presentation reel. I want to go eat in that little restaurant!

I think that this new service is absolutely amazing. What a cool idea to help boost and add value to search results for local businesses. I am in Phoenix Arizona where they are testing this and look forward to seeing more results pop up with these photos! Way to go Google!

There are a lot of off shore companies and individuals that can do your SEO requirements for a fraction of the cost in Australia. They are very reliable too! http://www.reachlocalnow.org
