Finally A Place Where Bing Rules Search!

Comments Off

From the “We’ll take it any way we can get it” category comes this application of the Bing search functionality in a place where is totally rules over Google. Yeah right, it’s from the new search function on the Xbox 360 but it is about voice search so it’s almost as cool as Apple’s Siri as well, right? Anyway, take a look if you would like or get Microsoft’s view from their blog go here.

Mountain Meet Mole Hill: Sensationalism At Its Worst and We Still Share It

2

I have already posted about this trend today in the industry’s coverage of a relative non-event even if it actually happens, which is the buying or maybe, kinda, sorta buying of Gowalla by Facebook.

So being in the mood I was already in came across this bit of “news” from Business Insider’s founder Henry Blodget and just had to ask what are we doing? Here is a picture of the headline from yesterday and the amount of sharing that occurred around it. (Don’t be scared by the tech speak of “Facebook-Like-Stuff” either:-) ). The gist of it is that one French company is changing over from e-mail on some internal communications so it must be the end of e-mail, right?

If you want to trudge on over there and read the article go right ahead but I will help you cut to the chase by giving you this quote that ends the post

Email is still an extremely convenient way to communicate, so it’s not likely to go anywhere. But there’s no question that email is losing share of digital communications, including in the workplace. And that’s not good for companies that depend on it for their livelihoods.

Social Media, Students and Getting a Job

8

The following post comes from our Social Media Channel sponsor, Full Sail University. Visit them to learn more about their programs in Internet marketing, web design and development and many more. We appreciate our sponsors so please visit them to learn about how they may be able to help you.

As an educator I’m always on the lookout for things that will help my students be successful. I think it’s vital that they develop a strong social media presence, given that they’re pursuing Internet Marketing degrees, though I believe the same also holds true for students in other disciplines.

So What If Facebook Bought Gowalla?

2

The rate of rumors being truth in this industry is increasing at an alarming rate.

Just take the recent “Facebook Has Purchased Gowalla……Maybe……We Think…..Well, There Are Plenty Of Signs Pointing to It…..Actually Since Mars and Jupiter Are Aligned It Looks Like A Go”. Now Kara Swisher has posted an e-mail that she transcribed from a Gowalla “leaker” saying that the ink on the deal isn’t dry blah, blah, blah.

Who cares?!

I mean really. If Gowalla was bought at a nice price the only people that benefit are the investors. That is not likely to be you or me. If Gowalla was purchased by Facebook it means nothing other than maybe Facebook will be looking at a location based service again but let’s remember that their past efforts in this area ended in a resounding thud.

Cup of Joe: Pep! Pep! Pep! Pep Talk?

1

Pep talks are awesome aren’t they? Heck, I watched the one above 6 times yesterday and I don’t even like football! A good pep talk can inspire people to do amazing things. We see them all the time in sports, political campaigns, marketing, and sometimes even in our churches!

Kelly Osbourne and the Bing Magical Holiday Calendar

Comments Off

Kelly Osbourne and the Bing Magical Holiday Calendar – sounds like a trendy children’s book, doesn’t it? What it is, is Bing making another attempt to be cool, interesting and relevant.

They were off to a good start with the Rudolph replica ads for TV. Come to think of it, Bing is the only search engine I can ever recall seeing commercials for and I remember a lot of them. That’s both good news and bad news, because even though I remember the ads, I still don’t use Bing.

Which brings me back to the Kelly and the Calendar.

Bing has installed an ugly, black and white, web advent calendar that is supposed to help you discover the magic of the holidays. The icons are numbered and you can only click on the one that matches the date or earlier.
