I am now convinced that you can find a study on the internet to prove anything you want to prove. Case in point, this slide from the new Performics Life on Demand study.

Top of the chart is Facebook. More women visit the site than men and 95% of users pop in at least once a day. That makes sense.

Moving on to YouTube, men and parents visit more often than women. I’ll buy that.

Twitter has more men than women. . . .I would have called that a toss up, so okay.

On Pinterest, parents especially DADS are more likely to visit daily. Dads? As in the male members of the species, visiting Pinterest more often than moms. And not by just a little either, 71% vs. 55%.

And then my favorite notation, the line on Google+ that says “daily visitors most likely to be age 50+.” Even Performics knows that’s crazy, so they added that note stating that the survey respondents were probably confused. They checked the box of Google+ when really, they visited Google, thus throwing the results out of whack.

There’s no such clarification on Pinterest, so Performics things they got those numbers right. But seriously? Dads are over there checking out the decorative cupcakes and fashion trends? Is this the new guilty pleasure? I’m frightened by this. I truly am.

What do you think? Have we been wrong about Pinterest? Is it really a hotbed of activity for 40-year-old dads? Or is this report really proof that you can make the stats say anything you want them to say if you look at them from the right angle?

You ponder that, I’m going to go watch sports bloopers and beer commercials on YouTube, it’s the only way I can think of to bring balance back to my social media world.
