Android Tablets Denting Apple’s Market Share As Well?

Nexus 7I know I appear to be anti- Apple. I am not. In fact, I have several generations of iPods in my house, a MacBook Pro and I use a Mac Mini as well. If I hate Apple I guess I have a weird way of showing it.

On the phone side though I have become an Android devotee with a Samsung SG3. I have yet to enter the tablet game (yeah I am the one guy left) and while I have to seriously consider the iPad or iPad Mini I am more seriously considering the Nexus 7. According to a report coming from Japan I am not alone by a long shot.

cnet reports

Google’s Nexus 7 is gaining market share in Japan and topped Apple’s iPad in one survey.

Japanese digital device consumers are some of the savviest in the world. So, a report Thursday showing that the Nexus 7 has bested the iPad in market share is worthy of attention.

Based on a survey of 2,400 consumer electronics stores in Japan, Google’s Nexus 7 tablet had 44.4 percent of the market versus the iPad’s 40.1 percent, according to Nikkei, Japan’s largest business daily. The survey was done by market research firm BCN in December.

So what’s the point for marketers? Just that there is mounting evidence that Android devices are prolific enough (or becoming so) in all mobile devices (not just phones) that creating apps and services for that platform has to be moved up the priority ladder.

Do you agree or disagree?

I love my Nexus 7 as it has impressed me in almost every conceivable way possible .
It would be a product that I would recommend to anyone needing a smaller footprint tablet ,just an awesome device !

I am SOOOO close to getting one myself.

Don’t hesitate! They’re not that expensive, and I use mine an incredible amount. I have a 16gb Nexus 7, and I’m considering getting the 3G version, just for the extra portability. I’ll have no problem getting rid of my old one, as my family is basically lined up to buy it.

We have two Android HTC smartphones running ICS (4.0). We have three Android tablets, 2 Nexus 7s and an Acer Iconia 510, running Jelly Bean (4.1.x). I’ve been very impressed with Android ever since ICS came on the scene, which integrated the smartphone and tablet platforms. A big difference from Froyo a couple of years ago.

Very big difference indeed. My Samsung SG3 running JB has really been enjoyable. Did have one freeze up that freaked me out a little but still very happy overall.

Loving my Nexus 7. Great size, great product, very useful. It’s one of a raft of Android devices we have around the house.

I LOVE my Samsung Galaxy Tab. I use it more than my laptop for home use and after 2 1/2 years still great :)

Totally agree – the Nexus 7 is one of the most useful products I’ve ever purchased, and at the $199 price point it’s utility value is fantastic – Android 4.2 is smooth and easy to use, and adding a $10 stylus into the mix means I have a text editor, library of books, movies and music as well as a host of apps wherever I go. The 7 inch form factor is also perfect for portability, and most other computers will treat it as a portable hard-drive, meaning that porting data to & from the Nexus 7 is as easy as it gets. $300 more for a Mac Mini? No thanks:)
