Square Stand Making Payments Easier and Cooler for Merchants

Square is a revolution in the way that merchants of all sizes (but especially the smaller ones) take payments for their products and services. Even in the little town I live in I can count several ‘main street’ merchants using the Square system to make their payment processing direct and easy. You pay on what you process and there are no extra hoops to jump through etc etc.

The one trouble has been that the process can be a little less than quick for any variety of reasons. It can be somewhat clumsy depending on the user. There’s is nothing worse than the panicked high school kid at the register having trouble processing a payment and looking at an impatient line of customers. I feel sympathy for them (in most cases) but there are many others that feel scorn and impatience. Don’t misconstrue this. It doesn’t happen much with Square but it can just like any other payment processing system.

So what has Square come up with for an improvement? Ta-da! The Square Stand.

[Infographic] Do Facebook Friend Recommendations Influence Purchasing?

Our friends at PPC Associates have put together an infographic to hopefully clear up the age old (as in the social media age) question about the importance of recommendations in the purchase process.

We don’t know for sure but we sure do ‘like’ this infographic and we hope you do as well.

SHOCKER: Google’s Rivals Don’t Like EU Deal After They Actually Read It

google-logoIt’s official.

The deal that was deemed a ‘non-starter’ by opponents back in April is now officially deemed inadequate by Google rivals. This time though it appears they actually had something to read vs. just complaining about what was rumored. At least that’s a step in the right direction….. I think.

Of course, those complaining are the same who have been making these claims against Google (otherwise known as ‘advertising through litigation’ or ‘we can’t do anything ourselves so we will force people to know about us by whining’ approach). At least that’s what we think since the Financial Times reports gives an indication of just how spineless these opponents actually are.

Another rival, which declined to be named, attacked the concession as producing “orphan links” that would be too small and lacking in detail to attract much traffic.

Facebook Appears Clueless As To What Android Users Actually Want

facebook-icon 1If a company just entered the Fortune 500 for the first time which makes it one of the largest (and almost automatically, well respected) companies in America it might be reasonable to think that there is some decent thinking going on there, right?

Apparently at Facebook that might be asking too much. Now, to be fair, it’s not like the company is completely in the dark. It’s done a great job getting to where it is today. The trouble for the company, and for those investing in the company, is that it is making some bold statements about its future being in mobile. As a result, you get Facebook Home for Android which is supposed to take the Facebook experience to a new level and practically immerse the user in a Facebook driven world.

Google SMS Search Gets Deleted

google-sms-searchGoogle is taking this whole streamlining thing quite seriously.

The latest ‘victim’ is their SMS Search product which allowed users to conduct a search by text message.

Ghacks reported

Many users of the service are reporting that the service has apparently been shut down by Google this night. When they send a search term to Google’s SMS Search number, 466453, they get the following response:

SMS search has been shutdown. You can continue to search the web at google.com on any device

TechCrunch also reported

People began to notice the service stop working on Friday, and asked about it in one of Google’s Product Forums (good thing those haven’t been closed down yet) and on Reddit. Jessica S., a Google employee, set the record straight:

One CEO’s Take on Google Glass. Do You Agree?

Meetup CEO Scott Heiferman is pretty opinionated, especially about Google Glass.

Let’s keep this simple. Watch this video from Business Insider and tell us in the comments why you agree or disagree with his take.
