Removing Snap Link Preview Pop-up

You should have noticed that a few weeks back I added the Snap link preview tool – the one that gives you a handy pop-up preview of any external link.

I have been meaning to ask you whether or not you found it useful or annoying. It looks like Darren Rowse asked the same thing of his readers and most of the comments are negative. So, assuming that you might think the same, I plan on removing the feature this week.

If you happen to love the feature and would like it to stay, please leave a comment. If your reaction is “good riddance”, I’d like to hear from you too!

What Did You Learn From Our SEM Scholarship Contest?

I must admit, putting together the Marketing Pilgrim SEM Scholarship contest was a lot of fun, hard work too, but mostly fun. There’s a lot of talented up and comers out there, and I believe many who entered the contest will become more familiar names in 2007.

During dinner at SES Chicago, David Temple suggested it would be good to hear from each entrant and see what they learned from their efforts to win. I asked David to put together a quick summary of his idea and what he learned. Here it is…

Playing Blog Tag – 5 Things You Don’t Know About Andy Beal

OK, so when I first heard about “blog tag”, it sounded like one of those chain-emails, you know the ones – “Pass this on to someone else and you’ll receive good luck.”

After being tagged by blogging-buddy Avinash, I figured it might be fun to share the requisite five things you don’t know about me. So here goes…

  1. Not many people know that I didn’t go to college. Growing up in England, there’s not quite the pressure to get a college degree. Even so, I just couldn’t stand the thought of sitting still in a classroom over a 4 year period. So I grabbed my A-levels and scarpered.
  2. You can trace my ancestors back to Sir Christopher Wren – he being the famous architect who designed England’s St. Paul’s Cathedral and helped rebuild London after the great fire.

Reminder – Last Chance to Subscribe to RSS Feed and Win an iPod

If you’ve not already subscribed to our RSS feed, now would be a good time, as the deadline for drawing is this Friday. We’ve not yet posted the secret message – available only to RSS subscribers – that will see one lucky winner receive an iPod or possibly a Zune.

Full details of the contest can be found here.

Here’s that feed again – http://feeds.feedburner.com/marketing-pilgrim

The hidden message could come at any time before Friday!

P.S. For those of you reading this message in your RSS reader, this is NOT your cue to enter, this is just a reminder for those who have yet to subscribe. ;-)

How Hot is Click Fraud?

It’s amazing just how heated of a subject “click fraud” is. When I published details of my conversation with Google, I made no attempt to cover both sides of the story. Long time readers will know that I’ve never believed the hype surrounding click fraud numbers, but they’ll also know that I’m balanced in my coverage.

However, with this article, I felt a balanced report would simply be that, a balanced commentary with no room for conversation. So instead, I kept it one-sided and let the community provide the balance – and boy did they.

So, what were the stats on the post?

5,000+ visitors more than the average day (3,000+ from Digg, ~300 from Techmeme)

50+ links

Thanks again to our Pilgrim Partners

I figured with ten news items added today, you’d indulge me with one extra one to thank our sponsors and advertisers – or what we call our Pilgrim Partners.

Handy Recovery – if you’re like me, you’ve accidentally lost a file or two in your time. With Handy Recovery, you can recover files lost due to accidental deletion or a virus.

TextLinkBrokers – if you looking to buy links – for traffic or SEO – TextLinkBrokers has a vast network of link partners and great pricing.

GoTo Meeting – I’ve used WebEx many times, but for ease of use and affordability, my vote goes to GoTo Meeting – I use it with all my client consultations!

Meet Ben Wills at SES Chicago – Free Beer!

Ben Wills has been a busy boy since winning our SEM Scholarship contest. The newly established social media marketing consultant will be at Search Engine Strategies in Chicago, signing autographs and explaining exactly how to take advantage of social networks.

Just in case you don’t happen to see Ben while zipping between sessions, he and I will spend some time propping up the hotel bar, and we’d love for you to join us. As an extra incentive, I’ll buy a drink for the first 25 people that catch Ben and I at the bar – we’re not sure when, so you’ll have to just keep an eye open. You’ll need to find both of us – ‘cos I’ll be the one buying. ;-)
