Google Launches Bus Trip Planner

CNet has details of Google’s new transit trip planner.

The Google trip planner asks people to enter their preferred itinerary, such as location of departure and arrival, as well as dates and time of travel. The site then gleans all available information on public transportation schedules to produce a trip planner.

The trip planner provides estimated walking time to catch the nearest form of transportation on the desired route, which transit line to catch and estimated traveling time. The trip planner also provides the estimated cost for using public transportation.

Sadly only available for residents of Portland, Oregon at this time.

Yahoo Answers Your Most Difficult Questions

Yahoo has just launched a new service called Yahoo Answers, which allows you to submit questions and have the Yahoo community answer them.

The concept of having real people answer questions is not a new one with Google Answers offering a similar service (albeit for a fee) for a couple of years now. That being said, Yahoo’s free offering aims to tap into the combined knowledge of its extensive community, to help answer those more difficult questions.

What is interesting is that search is slowly devolving before our eyes. Danny Sullivan has already lamented that “tagging” tools such as Yahoo’s My Web and seem a step backward in trying to organize the world’s information. Now with Yahoo Answers, aren’t we admitting that a search engine alone will never be enough to help searchers find what they truly seek?

AOL to Switch from Google to Microsoft?

Lot’s of speculation that AOL and Microsoft are close to inking a deal that would see MSN replace Google’s search results on AOL.

If true, it could be a set-back for Google and maybe their first real “bad news” since going public.

There is a chance Google can renew its agreement (due to end in 2006) but, “a person familiar with the talks told the newspaper a sticking point so far has been Google’s reluctance to guarantee Time Warner a minimum amount of revenue, which Microsoft had agreed to do.”
