SEM Scholarship 2009Summer 2009

Are you the next generation of search engine marketing expert? Are you interested in joining one of the fastest growing marketing careers ever? Do you have the talent but need the name recognition?

Marketing Pilgrim has launched its fourth annual contest to give away a search engine marketing scholarship prize package worth more than $10,000. We want to help one lucky winner to either start their career in search engine marketing, improve their existing skills further, or simply enhance their industry reputation.

The Grand Prize

Here’s what we’re giving away as part of our $10,000 prize package:

Thanks to all our sponsors for contributing prizes!

SEM Scholarship Entry Details

Simply submit an article on any subject related to search engine optimization (SEO), pay-per-click advertising (PPC) or social media optimization (SMO) before the June 22nd (6pm EST) deadline. We want your top tips, your favorite tricks or a secret tactic that our readers would find useful.

Between June 24th and 26th we’ll publish the qualifying entries and give each article 4 weeks (from publication) to attract as many readers as possible. Entrants are encouraged to provide articles that are optimized for the search engines and also utilize the various search and social media channels to promote their work.

On July 24th, we’ll select five entries that have achieved the highest overall traffic. In an effort to encourage quality traffic–not just quantity–each entry can earn two additional bonuses.

Bonus 1: If an entry achieves an average “Bounce Rate” below 75% it will be awarded a bonus equal to 10% of its total “unique views.”
Bonus 2: If an entry achieves an average “Time on Page” greater than 2:00 minutes, it will be awarded a bonus equal to 10% of its total “unique views.”

Example: Total Unique Views = 1,000
Bounce Rate of 55% = 1000 x 10% bonus (100)
Time on Page is 2:30 minutes = 1000 x 10% bonus (100)
Overall Traffic = 1,200

As you can see, the above bonuses are designed to provide additional benefits to those entries that engage readers.

On August 7th, we’ll announce the grand prize winner. The winner will be the entry that receives the most votes from our panel of expert judges.
